The funding was led by a mix of crypto and venture backers, including Hack VC, Jump Crypto, Primitive Ventures and Decasonic, among others, the company said in an emailed announcement. Opinion’s team told CoinDesk the product settles markets entirely on-chain, operating more like Polymarket than centralized rivals such as Kalshi.
The platform says it now handles roughly a third of global prediction-market volume and carries more than $130 million in open interest, citing Dune Analytics. Binance Research has also pointed to rising market activity, estimating around $7 billion in December trading volume amid heightened regulatory and political uncertainty.
Those numbers reflect a broader structural shift: prediction markets, once niche, are maturing into a distinct asset class. U.S. bank Citizens has observed monthly trading volumes around $10 billion as these platforms expand beyond sports and politics into macroeconomic and policy outcomes.
Opinion’s growth strategy leans on diversification. Unlike competitors that concentrate on sports or political bets, Opinion spreads liquidity across macroeconomic events, pre-token generation outcomes, culture and crypto — markets ranging from CPI prints to geopolitical developments.
Founder and CEO Forrest Liu said the new capital will be used to deepen regional operations and accelerate global expansion ahead of major calendar catalysts, including the 2026 World Cup and upcoming election cycles.
